Panevezys aeroclub
1930 – 2006
“The nation without aviation – the nation without future”
The department of Lithuanian aeroclub was established on 29 September
in 1930. A. Staskevicius, the head of Panevezys city and district,
was appointed as the chairman of this department.
In 1937 the aeroclub ended its activities, but it in 1939 it was
renewed again. At the same time new civil aviation pilots were
started to train in Pajuostis aerodrome.
The 1941 war interrupted the aeroclub’s activity for a long time.
Because of the wildest desire to fly and passionate enthusiasm
the youth renewed the aeroclub’s activity the third time in 60’s
and founded the basis in Stetiskes. Since then people have been
flying, planes have been constructed and competitions have been
held.
Now there are more than ten kinds of aviation sports in the aeroclub:
gliding, aerobatics, parachuting, hang-gliding, paragliding, motorgliding,
precision flying, aviamodelling, junior gliding. In the aeroclub
there is also Lithuanian Veterans Panevezys Department.
The aeroclub, as an educational institution of aviation, trains
amateur pilots, pilots of gliders, motorgliders and paragliders,
trains 9-11 year old junior aviators to glide small gliders. Most
of the teenagers, having been trained in the aeroclub, have graduated
Flight schools and successfully continue their career in the civil
or military aviation.
